I read a quote by a Christian leader recently. His name is Brian McLaren. He said: "You're right that I don't follow the conventional teaching on hell as eternal conscious torment for all non-Christians. But that doesn't mean that I don't believe the Bible: it means that I don't believe many of us have rightly interpreted the Bible on this subject."
I agree with Brian's statement. It makes sense. When I was a kid, my dad spanked me for my own good. He was a loving father. But he had to punish from time to time. When I got smacked on my little butt with his belt, I felt like I was in torment. But I knew he loved me and the pain was to teach me and it was not going to last for eternity. I believe that is the way God is. His judgments are all fair. His spankings are all fair.
I am glad that Christian leaders are rising up now that do not teach that God tortures people in Hell-Fire for eternity. God is Love.
